28 April 2008

Wow...I'm absolutely speechless at the outpouring of generosity towards Fred.

To date the garage sale/auction/donations have topped $600. There are still a few items that need to be settled for and I estimate toward the end of the week that we'll have approximately $700 - which is the low end of the quote for the surgery.

Ed and I (and Fred!) want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone out there who came by this weekend!

22 April 2008

Hey all...

So more stuff for the garage sale:

A brand new (the box has never even been opened) Canon Pixma ip3000 digital photo printer.
$80 firm.

Flatbed scanner - Epson Perfection 1250. We assume it works but have not actually tried it in the six years since it was given to us by a friend.

A set of copper pots and pans - $40 takes it.

Also, I've convinced Ed to part with his "old lady" dishes. It's actually quite a nice set but how many sets of dishes do two people need?

In other news...Rick Carr is still confirmed for Fireside this coming. He's an extremely knowledgable man and is willing to answer questions on a wide variety of topics.

Hopefully the weather smartens up for this...

17 April 2008

Hi all...

More stuff for the silent auction:

Mojo's Creations has graciously donated three spell kits: Love Attraction, Prosperity, and Protection.

For the garage sale: boxes and boxes of fabric (Ed's cleaning out his sewing room). Some of it suitable for ritual robes, etc. Also, really weird yarn.

And an air conditioner. Remember the one we were using last year? Kind of old, missing a knob but still working? That's the one...the first $20 takes it.

In other news...we just got a large shipment of small cauldrons. We've got about 20 of them. Not sure when we'll be able to get more so if you're interested in one, be sure to check them out.

Also, we've got Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, and Neroli oil bottled (finally). Next up: Healing, Prosperity, Psychic, and Aphrodite...

12 April 2008

Hello all...

I want to start by saying *thank you* to Dezi Farruga from World Financial Group for coming in to Fireside last night and giving us a wealth of information about wills and estate planning. What she said was valuable and, quite frankly, a lot of it scared the poop out of me. The bottom line of what she said was: if you don't have a will, do one. It's not hard and will save your partner/spouse/heirs, etc. a world of hurt...

Other news...

I've decided to do part of the garage sale on the weekend of April 26-27 as a silent auction with the funds going to Fred's lump removal.

Included in this auction (which will open the night of Fireside on April 25 and close at 4:30 pm on Sunday) is a large number of books including:
Be a Goddess by Francesca De Grandis
Remembering and Understanding Your Dreams by Craig Hamilton-Parker
10 Anniversary Ed. of Spiral Dance by Starhawk
The Illustrated Dream Dictionary by Russell Grant
The Indian Luck Book by Monisha Bharadwaj
The Book of Spells by Nicola de Pulford (out of print as far as I know)
Llewellyn's 2004 Magical Almanac
Magical Aromatherapy by Scott Cunningham
The Wiccan Handbook by Susan Bowes
Practical Candleburning Rituals by Raymond Buckland
The Little Book of Hexes for Women by Sophia (I'm not sure this one is serious or tongue in cheek)
Candlelight Spells by Gernia Dunwich
Secrets of Modern Witchcraft Revealed by Lady Sabrina
The Ultimate Book of Spells by Natasha Nevin
Power Spells by Lexa Rosean
Traditional Herbal Remedies by Jenny Plucknett
Llewellyn's 2004 Herbal Almanac
The Only Wiccan Spellbook you'll ever need by Marian Singer and Trish MacGregor
Gypsy Fortunes Oracle Deck set by Lady Lorelei
Wiccan Spell a Day by Sirona Knight
The Crystal Bible by Judy Hall

Our heartiest thanks to Rita who donated all of the above (except the Crystal Bible). Rita takes care of her books and they are all in excellent shape. The Crystal Bible, however, appears to have suffered an unfortunate incident at the distributor's (it looks like it fell from a height or was pitched at a concrete floor) and is slightly crushed on the bottom outside back edge (it's still very readable).

Also with regard to Crystal Bibles...we got a shipment of ever-so-slightly water damaged stock. The pages are *not* stuck together and other than very minor staining they are in excellent shape. We're offering them for $19.99 but you have to ask for them (let's see how many people actually read the blog...) because due to space concerns they're being stored on my desk.

Whew. This is a lot of typing.

So the Congregationalist Wicca Assembly of Alberta meets here tonight (April 12) at 6 pm.
Everyone is welcome to come. There is no charge, however, they ask you bring some kind of potluck item. Financial donations are, of course, also welcomed.

There will be a Pagan Services Association special resolution meeting in the back room on Sunday April 20 from 1 to 3 pm. The general public *is* invited to attend.

Oh...and our phones are working again. So call us if you like...

9 April 2008

ARGH!

We're still open...even though our phone is not working.

Apparently some schmoe out on the West Coast cut a fiber optic line this afternoon and severed service for thousands of people.

They're trying to splice it. I have no idea how one splices many thousands of little glass threads but I wish them the best of luck.

Anyway, we're still reachable by e-mail. And the phone company assures us service will be restored by tomorrow...

3 April 2008

Hello all...

News: collectively we've decided to do a Fireside Chat in the park in June. As soon as dates, times, etc. are finalized, I will post here. It will be similar to "Pagans in the Park" last year - a barbeque, games, and such. It'll be a hoot.

Also...we've just gotten in more fairies of the metal winged variety. Boxes and boxes and boxes of them. You could build a fort with the boxes.

And...a whole lot of Egyptian stuff. We're aiming to have it all inventoried and put out by the end of tomorrow (Friday).

As well...we've gotten in our new batch of essential oil. I'm aiming to have them bottled and put out by Sunday (it's a little painstaking). That being said, we're going to have back in all the good ones like lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint...

With regard to the sale at the end of the month...we've finalized the format for it: there will be a sale at the front of the store with stock items on sale (some more than others) and also a garage sale with more personal items of Ed, mine, and strange things we acquired with the store three years ago (yes, it's taken us *that* long to go through all the various storage cubby holes). There will also be some items from previous garage sales held at our house in which people participated and although they promised not to, ended up leaving stuff behind.

Again, I want to stress: please don't bring us anything to sell on your behalf. Please. Please. Please. This is an exercise in de-cluttering.

Also, an important note: the entire proceeds from the garage sale part of the sale will be going into a fund to help pay for Fred's surgery (to remove the knob that is growing on his ribcage. Cost: approximately $1000)
