Hello all...
Fred and I are back from our Kootenay trip...
It was quite exciting - our first night we saw a bear walking up the road toward us at dusk. This was also the night that I fell and landed on top of Fred while scaling the hillside at high speed in an effort to put distance between us and the self same bear.
The second night we stayed at Kokanee Creek Provincial Park just north of Nelson. This is a very beautiful campground with a great beach and some amazing walking trails. It is also where Kokanee salmon go to spawn and, later on, to die. Apparently the dead ones are quite the delicacy among crows and dogs and I had to really watch Fred to make sure he didn't eat any because rotten salmon + long car ride + camping = one bad scene.
The third night we stayed at Lockhart Beach Provincial Park north of Creston. There is a hiking trail that starts in the day use area and follows Lockhart Creek for miles and miles (possibly forever). Fred and I walked the trail to the 4 km mark with no end in sight. It's more of a goat path than a nature trail but that being said, the Parks people have done an amazing job with the upkeep. I highly recommend taking this trail if you're ever in the area because you'll see forms of life there that could possibly prove the existence of alien life on Earth. I've seen mushrooms before but what's growing in that little slice of rainforest is mindboggling. I can't even describe some of them but if you look up "bear's head fungus" online you'll get an idea of what's out there.
Anyway, the whole point of this story is...I took the twisty-windy drive up past Creston and and got more brooms. They had more variety of stock this year and I've managed to get some very nice brooms.
We're also starting to get our Christmas stock in and new things should be arriving every couple of weeks or so.
We will be hosting the CWAA Women's Mysteries this coming Sunday Oct 5.
Fireside will be Oct 10. As far as I know no topic/facilitator have been chosen.
