So these are ammonites (fossilized snails). I believe these ones were actually found in Alberta (I know that Alberta is a good source for these). The ones in the picture are about an inch long (everything can look huge when photographed from a distance of 3 cm).
The reason I'm posting about them today is that we've got a bunch of them and they're quite beautiful (I coudn't find the right angle to shoot the picture at to adequately show the rainbow sheen they have - this is my lack as a photographer and not any comment on the quality of the ammonites).
We were selling them at $4.50 each and last week I got another batch from the same supplier at a better price, so much better in fact, that what was $4.50 is now $2.00! We got some bigger ones in as well (average 1.5 inches across) which will be selling at the $4.50 price.
According to the Crystal Bible 2 (Judy Hall)(which we sell)(and I'm paraphrasing the text):
